This Hogwash About Sarah Palin

Posted by Deutlich on September 2nd, 2008 | Filed under: Uncategorized

I get it. McCain picked a former beauty pageant contestant for his running mate. She’s pleasing to the eye and blah blah blah.

Yes, her 17 year old daughter is pregnant. Yes, she’s also been photographed with alcohol in her hands on at least three separate occasions.

But seriously? If this is the bullshit we’re going to focus on regarding the VP, then I don’t want to have a damn thing to do with it.

I don’t like Palin as the VP because she has absolutely no international experience. NONE.

I don’t like Palin because she’s an even lesser “known” than Obama — and I’ve known of him for three years. For what it’s worth, I didn’t know much about McCain prior to the 2000 election. Nor did I really know who Kerry was, prior to the 2004 election – both of which I voted for in those respective times.

I don’t like Palin because it feels too rushed. Because it feels like McCain made a hob-nob decision to try and catch people off guard. Just to look cool.

I don’t want a damn president who does some shit just to “look cool,” okay?

Nor do I want a president who is so old that he very well may have a severe medical issue whilst president, leaving the seat open to Sarah Palin.

I get it, her daughter has fucked up a bit. But if you pretend that she’s the only 17 year old in the entire world who’s ever been in those shoes, than you are sadly mistaken.

I am sick and fucking tired of American politics leaning towards personal bullshit. Clinton gets his dick sucked and all of a sudden he’s impeached?

The Bush administration used lies and coercion to royally fuck up our money, kill innocent people in a foreign country, screwed up our status and our “playing field” in the world and everyone smiles and nods.

Now Palin’s skeletons are being aired as if they have a goddamn thing to do with her political stance.

And that? That’s the shit we really need to be paying attention to.

I don’t like her politics and I don’t like McCain’s current politics either.

At all.

Please, for the love of all things crispy – register to vote if you are eligible and go out there and do it. Being that I am black AND a woman, there was a time in which I would not be able to do so. People died for me to be able to vote today.

DIED.

For ME and YOU and YOU and YOU too.

So.

Stop being apathetic, Google the candidate’s platforms, register to vote and make your voice be heard – regardless of whom it is you choose. It sickens me to the core how lazy Americans are when there are still people in a large chunk of the world who are not allowed to vote at all.

People who have no say.

Just do yourself a favor and choose based on the politics and stuff that really matters, not the superficial bullshit.

Yes, totally. For serious, I’m still asking the question: Who the crap is this Palin chick?

  2. 2 Andy Says:

You know, even if I’m from a whole different country in a whole different continent, our news are plagued with the American Elections.

The news on Palin’s daughter look more like a E! News than CNN news. Who cares if she’s pregnant? That’s PERSONAL. It has NOTHING to do with Palin’s job.

  3. 3 Allison Says:

It’s almost as if he picked that woman hoping he could trick voters into voting for Palin because they voted for Hillary.

Nevermind the fact that their views are completely opposite. But, hey, she’s a woman!

  4. 4 mentalthreesixty Says:

^@Allison I think that was his strategy too. I highly doubt it’ll work though.

  5. 5 Narm Says:

Nothing makes me giggle more than hearing small-minded rednecks try to figure out if they are going to vote for the black guy or the woman. This election is really screwing up white guys’ feelings of self-entitlement.

  6. 6 Mom in real life Says:

I agree, I am going to vote for the best candidate for the job, not based off of their color/gender/family life.

  7. 7 Jess Says:

I agree. I am frustrated with McCain’s attitude that a vagina is a commodity, and I think that abstinence only education will lead to more unwanted pregnancies, but this doesn’t need to get personal. There’s plenty to attack her on in terms of her policy stances and her complete lack of experience. She is so inexperienced that Cindy McCain even said the other day that Palin will be good on foreign policy because Alaska is near Russia, so Palin “knows what’s at stake.” Really? That’s the best you got? Seems like there’s plenty of material to attack Palin on the issues and her ability to perform as VP and potentially as president, without starting to attack her daughter for something that could happen to anyone.

  8. 8 chickbug Says:

i agree. i don’t like Sarah Palin for all the reasons you listed. her parenting skills? they have absolutely nothing to do with it.

if we want men and women in this country to be on an equal playing field, we should be judging them equally. no one is talking about obama and him leaving his young kids to campaign/be president.

but regardless, people need to educate themselves on the real issues of this campaign. and VOTE.

  9. 9 alexa Says:

you make some very good points my friend. the thing is, mccain knew exactly what he was doing. there were no skeletons being fished out. mccain knew EXACTLY what he was doing.

and she doesn’t have foreign policy experience (that’s what mccain’s for). but obama isn’t exactly strong in that regard either though.

it just makes me sad that we finally have a woman in a major party ticket and she sucks on woman’s rights! ahhhhhhh!

  10. 10 Allison Says:

@alexa I know. completely sucks on women’s rights.

    How! Why?

  11. 11 Maxie Says:

I’m kind of glad that the Republicans are getting a taste of their own medicine. They tried to drag Obama’s past through the mud and he really had nothing to be embarrassed about.

Thank you, John McCain for assuming that women are too stupid to see through your stupid ploy.

  12. 12 deutlich Says:

    Lspoon – No damn clue.

    Andy – Agreed.

Allison – Ugh, that irritates me to no end too.

    360 – Yeah

    Narm – HA!

Mom – And that’s how it should always be.

    Jess – Couldn’t agree more.

Chickbug – People really do need to educate themselves and not just let Fox news or CNN tell ‘em what’s wright and what’s wrong.

Alexa – I emailed you already but I figured I’d say it again.. what irks me is that if McCain dies then Palin’s the president.. and that HAS to be put into consideration. He’s old, he’s sick and he’s.. well.. OLD. And in the same token, if Barack were to parish, then Biden would be president.. and frankly? I trust Biden much more than I do Palin. I also think that Barack’s travels abroad showcased pretty decently how in tune he really is w/the rest of the world. He’s been keeping those ties open for a while now. And don’t even get me started on the women’s rights thing. Ugh.

Maxie – YES AND YES AND YES!

  13. 13 ashley.marie Says:

    Well said.

I am going to go change my precinct now since I just moved.

Thanks for reminding me. And kicking everyone in their pants.

And if I may add :

GO OUT AND VOTE! WAKE UP EARLY & STOP COMPLAINING!

  14. 14 brandy Says:

This might be my favorite post ever. I’m tired of hearing people say that they don’t know enough about the candidates. I think it’s the candidates responsibility to introduce themselves, but people need to take the responsibility to learn on their own. I don’t live in the States, yet I know enough about each of them that I know if I COULD vote- on November 4th I could do it being confident that I’m basing my vote on their views, their voting records, and what they plan to do for America.

It’s frustrating to see some Americans not take an active role in choosing their leader. If we can all take the time to write blog posts, and check our email, why can’t people take the time to read on a candidate instead of waiting for the candidate to hand feed them the information they are looking for in a speech?

Also, Palin annoys me. I don’t agree with her on her politics, but what annoys me is that she clearly was chosen partially because she’s a female. I really believe that. And the fact that she continues to reference Hillary Clinton in her speech and open herself up for comparisons to her is ridiculous. And talking about the 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling as though she’s there to finish the job? I highly doubt that Hillary Clinton likes the idea that someone so anti- abortion to the point she doesn’t even think someone who is raped should be allowed one, is being compared to her.

  15. 15 dmb5_libra Says:

what? i didn’t hear about the alcohol part :) she just doesn’t have the experience…and as much as mccain has been a stickler for not play “politics”, that’s exactly what he did in his choice of palin. its scares me that she could be president. gosh mccain, what ever happened to picked the best person for the job? arrrrg! i’m not voting for you, but still, don’t insult my intelligence!

i don’t believe that shit that mccain knew the 17 was pregnant before he picked palin…based off of how this country reacts to scandal (especially the more right leaning side), mccain would have never picked palin knowing her teenage daughter was pregnant. i agree witht he the whole “picking someone to look cool”. he’s trying to cultivate an image of being a progressive-thinking “new” republican, but anyone that’s smart can see straight through that bullshit.

  16. 16 apollocreed Says:

    I feel the same way.

  17. 17 Andrea Says:

Seriously. The GOP goes on about Obama’s ‘lack of experience’ and she has even less. McCain is seeking those Clinton-voting women like a hungry dog.

  18. 18 Noelle Says:

The flaws of Palin are really the flaws of McCain and his snap decision. I do feel bad for the knocked-up 17 year old. Her mom doesn’t believe in comprehensive sex education, so she probably didn’t know any better, and now she’s at the center of this crazy national story when she could be living a life as just another anonymous teenager.

  19. 19 Sarah Says:

the other night a friend told me she’s voting for mccain because obama didn’t stand during the pledge once. seriously?! i reminded her as nicely as possible that she might want to take a look at their policies before making a decision.

  20. 20 Ashley Says:

AGREE 100%. People really need to learn about their candidates and go out and VOTE. If we are so unhappy about the way our country is right now, then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

I actually wrote a post this weekend very similar to this which i’m posting tomorrow. Only its more about Sarah Palin. I hate that they’re bringing her family and such tabloid trash into this campaign instead of focusing on whats MORE important.

I also hate that McCain chose Palin because he wanted to appease his party, to look more republican. If he’s willing to sacrifice his choices for his party, what else will he do??

And I’m rewriting my blog post in your comments. :) Excellent post, as always.

  21. 21 L.C.T. Says:

Well said. The Brits over here all think it’s a huge joke. American politics is getting worse!

  22. 22 the almost right word Says:

Great post, my dear. I think it’s so important to encourage people to vote. Well done.

  23. 23 freeandflawed Says:

I think a lot of people focus on her pregnant daughter because many don’t like to talk “politics.” This is their way of still being in the conversation without really knowing the facts. Just a guess.

But I agree. There should be less focus on her irresponsible daughter and more on her lack of experience. Just because she was the mayor of a city of 6,000 doesn’t mean she’s ready to run the country. I see a whole list of cons when it comes to Palin.

  24. 24 allthewine Says:

The point is, and I hate to say that Diddy is right, but if McCain kicks it, SHE WOULD BE PRESIDENT.

    Scary.

  25. 25 downbeat Says:

All of the Republicans I hang out with (please don’t judge me by the company I keep) are so hot and bothered over Palin because they’ve convinced themselves that she has MORE experience than any McCain, Biden, or Obama because she’s been an effing governor for two years. They say senators just talk about things wile governors do things. She’s spunky… I’ll give her that much. She just also happens to stand for most things that make my insides wretch. In the end, however, people will justify their vote in whatever way they can to help them sleep through the night. I just hope those “non-eduated working class white women” the pundits keep swearing are going to vote for McCain because Hillary lost the primary will realize that the only thing those two women have in common are ovaries.

  26. 26 mon Says:

its hard when you feel the decision is really the lesser of two evils…..

  27. 27 katelin Says:

you took the words right out of my mouth. say it sistah. :)

  28. 28 SA Says:

    @ Allison, mentalthreesixty

There was a woman on CNN this morning saying she was voting for McCain because of the Palin nomination. She said that Obama not asking Hillary to be VP showed sexism in his campaign. When the reporter asked her about the fact that Hillary is against pretty much every single issue Palin is for she completely wrote it off going back to the sexism thing. This woman rather have a woman in office then stopping Roe v. Wade from being overturned.

    It’s working already.

  29. 29 Dingo Says:

I don’t think, and I hope, it’s not the personal bullshit that people are upset about but the hypocrisy of the Republican party. Not saying that the Dems don’t have their share of hypocrites but the Repuglicans have elevated it to cult status. This isn’t about Bristol Palin, it’s about Sarah eliminating abstinence only education and choice while making claims that she and her family have choices. Nice if you have the resources and support that she and the McCain’s do, not so nice if you are Average Joe American.

She has no international experience and the quote I read in an article that said that she has plenty of experience, “she looks at Russia every day!” isn’t a strong selling point with me.

  30. 30 Toughgirl101 Says:

I’ve seen their politics, i’ve seen them speak. I’m not gonna lie, i don’t really like either of them. They’re better than the kerry/bush “choosing the lesser of two evils” fiasco, so far as I am concerned, but i don’t trust either obama or mccain to lead me in a time of war (which I actually think is easier than leading in a time of peace)

So I’m not voting. Because I just don’t like either of them.

  31. 31 Travis Says:

I know what you mean. Stick to Palin’s policies, not what her daughter did.

  32. 32 Technodoll Says:

Times like these I wish I were American just to be able to vote. Man. What’s WRONG with the world these days? :-s

  33. 33 Megan Says:

    Amen. Just, amen.

  34. 34 KT Says:

    AMEN!!!!!!!!

  35. 35 Princess Pointful Says:

    Amen.
And kudos to Obama for telling them to lay off the daughter!

  36. 36 Dolce Says:

If I have to listen to one more political pundit talk about Sarah Palin one more time I’m going to scoop out my eyeballs with a teaspoon.

Enough already. I want all the so called politcal experts to get down to the real issues!!!!

  37. 37 erin Says:

agreed….it sucks that this is what gets reported and thus is what people vote on (rather than the issues)

my grandma (who doesn’t vote anyway) said during the primaries that she would have voted for mitt romney because he was “nice looking”.

  38. 38 e. Says:

The whole Palin thing really makes my head hurt.

And I’m already registered and waiting for November to roll around.

  39. 39 Renee Says:

    yes yes YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

    i fucking love you.

  40. 40 Phil Says:

I may be gay, but I just fell in love with you. Truth be told, I actually admired how Palin handled the press with the issue of her daughter’s pregnancy. That, at least, was very dignified and professional of her. Naturally, I still don’t like her political stances on pretty much every single issue. I’ve decided that she, and other people who don’t like to admit that the way we abuse our planet is killing whole species of animals, doesn’t want to admit that polar bears are going extinct because she knows that, were she to encounter one, it would probably eat her. This wouldn’t be a problem, of course, if they weren’t losing their habitat to global warming and their usual food to big game and fur trade.

  41. 41 Deva Says:

    THANK YOU for this post.

    that’s all.

  42. 42 Random Musings Says:

FUCKING HELL… Its like you pried the words out of my head.
This is WHY I HATE politics. Fuckers.
    I mean serious.

  43. 43 Vanessa Says:

I don’t like Palin because she is mayor of a town of 8000 and grossly underqualified for the job. Also? She wants to ban books. WTF??? Is this the dark ages again?

  44. 44 deutlich Says:

    Ashley marie – You’re welcome. :)

Brandy – I MAY have gotten a lil’ teary eyed reading your comment.. because I’m that big of a sap..

DMB – You already know where I stand on all of this.. seing as how we refuse to stop talking about it

    Apollo – That’s ’cause you’re awesome

Andrea – That pisses me off too

Noelle – I don’t understand how people of todaywon’t support comprehensive sex ed. I don’t get it AT ALL.

Sarah – Oh, No. Some people should have their right to vote revoked…

Ashley – It’s SO easy to do these days too because there are 60 thousand places to find info on them!

LCT – It feels like a huge joke on this end too…

Almost Right Word – Thank you

Freeandflawed – I’m going to have to agree with you. Wholeheartedly.

    Allthewine – IT IS SCARY!

Downbeat – Hey hey! No judgments. I have Republican friends and I personally don’t pick a “side.” I pick what’s best for the country

    Mon – Yeah…

    Katelin – Always. :)

SA – Let’s hope it’s only working on a very.VERY. small percentage of people.

Dingo – You and me both. I really hope it’s the hypocrasy that’s bugging people out.

Toughgirl – Ya know, I can certainly understand that stance.. but I feel like we’ll ALWAYS have two political parties and we just have to deal with it. I’m not sure sticking our heads in the sand will accomplish much. But again, I feel like that’s at least a valid reason for your stance.. and in the end? It’s your choice.

    Travis – Yes.

Technodoll – I don’t get it. I have NO clue what’s going on these days..

    Megan – Grazi

    KT – ;)

    Princess Pointful – YES! I <3 Barack

    Dolce – Dude, me too!

    Erin – Oh man..

    E – Ditto

Renee – Likewise, my dear. Likewise. :o )

    Phil – Awww, I’m flattered.

Deva – You are welcome doll.

random Musings – I don’t like politics either, and I live near the Capital of the U.S….

    Vanessa – EXACTLY!

  45. 45 Will Says:

De lurking for once to comment on a Blog I like reading.

Going to have to disagree with you on the no experience thing she may have limited experience but she does have experience. She was the Governor of Alaska.

Can anyone name the states that border Alaska? Right none, Canada and across the Bering Straight is Russia. From my understanding border states do a good amount of foreign relations with the nations that are on there borders. So obviously more with Canada but still that is experience with foreign policy.

Maybe I am naive to think that this counts as good experience as a executive government, and in that creating and implementing foreign policy. Which is something the other candidates(McCain included lack)

And because Obama went and toured around in some foreign countries means he now has foreign policy experience? While it suggestions he can get along and might be able to work with these people in the future he wasn’t there to work on American foreign policy(which isn’t is job as a elected official yet hes a Senator remember)

But Obama does have experience the fact that he was able to navigate and get elected in Chicago and to the Senate and has spent some time in the Senate. This does mean he has legislative experience. Just not executive experience. And Palin is lacking in legislative experience but she isn’t running to be on the legislative side of the government.

Just my two cents, hope some of it makes sense.

  46. 46 girlinterrupted1218 Says:

I know right! I am completely with you on Sarah Who? What was all that talk from McCain’s camp about Obama not having enough experience to run the country. Then they go pick some chick who used to be the mayor of a town smaller than a tack and only has been governor for a couple years. WTF!! She has less experience than I do at this point.

  47. 47 sizzlesays Says:

Very well said! The apathy in America pains me. Get off your asses and vote!

  48. 48 Alison Says:

Well put!! I completely agree with you!

  49. 49 Libby Says:

amen! VOTE – VOTE – VOTE!!!

  50. 50 Sara Jane Says:

    Amen!

However, I just have to say…I think that it’s so selfish of her to put her family through this. Did it not cross her mind the stress this would put on her daughter? Selfish.

  51. 51 Rebekah Says:

    *stands up and cheers*

The VP debates are happening here in StL and I am gunning for one of those tickets. I want to see what she has to say next to Biden, and Biden next to her. Veeps are more important than ever in this election.

  52. 52 Jessica Says:

Her lack of experience is exactly my issue too. I just don’t know how they can let that slip by when they’re attacking Obama for the same thing. Hi double standard.

  53. 53 nicoleantoinette Says:

    Thanks for this

  54. 54 Z Says:

Oh, but I love this post. And agree wholeheartedly.

  55. 55 Caden Says:

I couldn’t agree more. While I want people to vote as I feel it’s a duty and not a right….I want people to be educated voters.

    Amen, sista.

  56. 56 AJ Says:

Unbelievable.. Obama has no more experience than Palin. Every one knows that Republicans are conservative. Listen to the issues and make an informed decision, then get off your butt and VOTE. There is no need to tear anyone down for what they believe. Isn’t that what America is all about – Freedom?????

  57. 57 crazyeighth Says:

I found your blog via littlespoon *Mim*
i totally agree with you. what the hell is happening. all i can say is people better get out and vote in November or we are screwed.
please check out my blog too!!

  58. 58 Kevin Says:

You’re totally right, the only thing really going for Mccain right now is his daughter is smokin hot. =)

  59. 59 Chelsea Talks Smack Says:

I am FULLY prepared to move to Canada…or anywhere…if he is elected.

  60. 60 Peter Says:

I could care less about Palin’s daughter.

But, if I was an American, her policies and beliefs, coupled with McCain’s age and health, would have me absolutely terrified.

    Seriously.

  61. 61 Matt Says:

How did you know I love all things crispy?
