Beatin’ A Dead Horse
Posted by Deutlich on April 24th, 2008 | Filed under: UncategorizedI’m pretty good at letting things get to me… at not getting over shit. But frankly? I don’t need to drag y’all through the mud with me.
So. No more talk on that certain subject. Fuckit, it’s over and done with.
I’ve been tagged by two folks, Slaus (who I think has since deleted the post) and…. someone I can’t friggin’ remember to save my life! I am SO SORRY! My brain has been all over the place due to a HUGE project at work and yes, sometimes I’m just lame.
On to 6 quirks…
- I don’t like sauces on top of my food. It doesn’t matter if it’s gravy or salad dressing, it needs to be in a side dish so I can dip my food into it. If a sauce is overpowering the food I become disheartened. I do.
- I love shows like Rob & Big, Intervention, Gene Simmons Family Jewels, The Amazing Race, Top Chef and Hell’s Kitchen. I pretty much loathe all other reality TV. A few exceptions apply, but they’re rare. I also love That’s So Raven and Avatar, the Last Airbender (damn them for not airing the next show, it’s been months).
- Something ugly or bad that happened in the past will bug me out for AGES. Sometimes it’ll still get under my skin years later. I’m slick like that.
- I love to randomly speak in German. It freaks people out. I do NOT look German.
- I drive my car, I do not let it drive me. This means a few things: I’m a pedal-to-the-metal type of chick. I have more road miles under my belt than the average Joe and I drive a MANUAL. I don’t care how bad DC traffic gets – I must have control of my car. Automatics are for wimps.
- I can be kind of flighty. I’ll stop in the middle of a conversation and break out in song, or mention something completely off topic, or just drift off. It’s a bad habit. I’m working on it.
I’d tag folks, but I’m not sure who’s done it. If you’re down for the count – please feel free.
On an unrelated note, I’m making plans to move to Providence, RI. I need a new area. An area that I have no previous ties to. A place with four seasons and a night life and is on the East Coast.
It’s time to make a move.
The plan is as follows:
1) Kill debt.
2) Kill debt.
3) Get a job.
4) Find a place.
For the first time in my life, this thought of leaving actually feels right and I think it’ll actually come to fruition. So far, Maxie’s on board too. How killer would THAT be?
Exactly.
I’ve had 50 million people ask me why I picked Providence… but in all reality, does it matter?
No. It doesn’t.
I picked it ’cause I can.
Ha!

How the heck do you eat spaghetti or mac n’cheese? LOL!
The East Coast rocks and although I bitch about winter, I couldn’t live without my 4 seasons.
*3 cheeeers for Deutlich!*

I am the king of saying I am going to move or do something drastic and never following through. I love your reasoning for why you picked Providence and the guts to move. Might as well do something bold while you are still young enough to pull it off.

I can’t sit still when I watch Top Chef. I always have the urge to run to the kitchen and cook along side them. And seriously? That Andrew guy needs to lay off the uppers.
Also, I do not support this move to RI because it means you will be that extra bit further away from me.

Yay for a new scene!! Rhode Island is really pretty. Once you get there, you should take a road trip to Newport.
April 24th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
you do so look German.
April 24th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
I am with you on #1. It drives my husband crazy.
April 24th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
kill debt..kill debt…kill debt.
Kill the bastard. I’m working on mine too.
I’m also totally with you on number 5.

Hey Schatz, I have no idea where Providence is. You know how they say that Americans don’t know anything about Canada? I think I’m the worst when it comes to US geography. The led. Love, Schwuler.
PS. I used the two German words that I know that aren’t horrendously offensive.
April 24th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Hey Providence totally works, why the hell not I would say.
And I’m sort of like that with sauces too, except for salad dressing. I definitely don’t need sauces overpowering my food.
April 24th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
Its official that everyone in the blog world has been tagged… I swear this is like the 100th time I’ve seen this tag today!
April 24th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Providence is super cute! It’s a very small, manageable city with a good sampling of restaurants and bars and whatnot. Plus you’re like 45 minutes from Boston. I support Boston more than Providence but to each her own =)
April 24th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
You will be happy to know they are making a movie of The Avatar. I can’t remember if it was going to be live action or not.
Why do I know this? Because I’m fucking awesome.
April 24th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
You know I lived on the East Coast most of my life and have never been to New England…not ONCE! But I hear it’s lovely!
I packed up and moved and it was the best decision of my life…fresh starts are wonderful…hope it works out the same for you =]
April 24th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
my mom does #4 in Russian All the time. She is not russian.
Also people at work assume I’m german because of my last name, and then they come to my desk and do a double take like … uh, what? I tell them I’m german chocolate
Yea for making decisions and moving on with your life. I’ve heard RI is gorgeous.
April 24th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
woo! deutsch!
du sollst wirklich nach deutschland umziehen. oder besuchen. mir egal – solange wir uns kennen lernen kann!
April 24th, 2008 at 7:40 pm

April 24th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
no fair! i was going to ask you why you picked providence!
and somehow the fact that you drive a stick does not surprise me at all
(and that’s not a bad thing)
April 24th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
number 6, totally me too.
providence! damn straight. i have many friends from RI and you’ll be close to mass and we can go for cocktails.
sweet.
April 24th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Providence has a lot of smart kids and a lot of not so smart kids. So I guess in conclusion, its awesome.
I’m glad I didn’t ask why you picked Providence. I didn’t want to become a statistic.
April 24th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Good for you! I get the same questions about moving to Portland. I like your answer.
April 24th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
OH MY God!!! You and Maxie in Providence. Lord help RI! LOL! That is fabulous.
April 24th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
i’m invited to come visit you and maxie in providence right???
btw. i’m proud of you. what you are doing takes guts baby.
April 24th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Wow, that’s so great!!!! What an awesome feeling of freedom to pick where ever you want to move
Good luck with making the transition!
April 24th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
I, too, can never seem to let go of the things that really and truly embarrass/upset/anger me, even years later…
But Providence? Awesome. I love that city, mostly cuz my brother went to college there and I always had a fun time visiting
April 24th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
I’m no geography whiz? But I’m fairly certain that RI is NEAR Boston, yes? Road trips!!!
Also, I hate sauces on things, too, and I always break out into song in the midst of conversation. Others find it annoying? I? Say “charming”.
April 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Technodoll – So, spaghetti & mac are my two exceptions. I guess I should’ve mentioned that, eh? hahaha.
Narm – Dude, so far I have been too. But this go around I’m allowing ample of time to get my shit together and I AM SO EXCITED by this idea it’s not even funny.
Jack – Awww.. Pookie, you can come visit in RI just as easily, right? And vice versa? Because a flight is a flight.. ’sides.. RI is GORGEOUS!
Nachi – Aww, I’m so excited!! And I will be taking TONS of roadtrips! I think that’s what I like best about this idea – there are SO SO SO many cool cities within driving distance.
Surviving – You know what? I really effin’ appreciate that. Thank you.
Schokolade – HEY! YOUR NAME’S IN GERMAN!!!! And yes, I had to write in all caps.
Tin Ma’am – Debt is a bitch.. but he will be MY bitch, dammit.
Ben – I can not count the ways in which I <3 you. I can not. Also? I know nothing of Canada other than Toronto. I didn't even realize that Technodoll was on the East Coast.. this whole time I thought she was over on the West.. Oy.
Katelin – Providence continues to look more and more promising. I like this. A lot.
Eb – Ha! Go flippin’ figure.
Jamie – DUDE! I can not WAIT for that movie and you really are fucking awesome.
Arielle – Boston is slightly more expensive and I know some folks there… I need to be further away than a hop and a jump, LOL.
<33 J - Dude, New England is fantastic. Truly.
Tiff – Hahahahahaha.. I’m picturing people’s faces as they come over to meet you and can’t figure out the last name bit. Oh, and seriously? I keep hearing great things about Providence and WHO KNEW?! I used that http://www.findyourspot.com website and.. it’s just feeling really ideal. I am too stoked. TOO STOKED!
Ex – I freakin’ <3 you and YES, as soon as I have enough $$ to go to Germany I am SO going to meet up with you. You did not sound stalkerish at all. I'd move there, but I have problems adjusting to other people's laws.. it's taken me years to figure out America's system.
Michelle – I <3 my stick. Love. Love. Love.
Brookem – Dudette, this just makes the whole idea so much sweeter.
RS27 – Hahahahaha
PrincessB – Thanks!!
1218 – DUDE! RI will not know what hit it!
Alexa – Thanks, doll!!
Wickedly – Thanks sweetie!
Z – I LOVE that I keep hearing all this positive feedback on Providence. I’m visiting in the summer. Am. Stoked. Although, I’m pretty sold on it already.
La – DUDE! I JUST got done leaving you a longwinded comment ending in the fact that I’m moving to RI in January. We rule.
April 24th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
i love that you are moving and it seems you are making decisions so fast. whatever you do…don’t change your mind and don’t let anything stop you. do it for you and for those of us who are too damn scared to do it ourselves! :]
April 25th, 2008 at 2:48 am
Aw boo! You’re going to be so far away, especially since I’m planning to move to Santa Fe. Although I can see why you’d choose somewhere in New England. I was planning on moving further North, too, until I decided I hate the cold and I’m sick of the East Coast. lol
I drive an automatic not because I’m a wimp but because I multitask. There are times where I will be eating, drinking, smoking, changing cds, checking my phone, and driving alllllll at the same time. Did I also mention I have an extra pair of arms?
April 25th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
Torsten dips all of his food into sauce too! Except schnitzel. He buries that crap in huge amounts of mushroom gravy. Still, I think the dipping is a German thing. Along with the attitude that automatics are for wimps.
April 25th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
LAST?!!! I love Raven too!
April 25th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
*high five for number five* My 87 year old great aunt says “automatics aren’t real cars”. lol
May 1st, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Dude, I LOVE Avatar! I love most of the shows on Nickelodeon that I am technically way too old to be watching (Hello? “Nate’s Declassified School Survival Guide”? HILARIOUS!)
Also, I too drove a manual–when I had a car. It is the *only* way to go. Particularly if, like myself, you live in a neighborhood where the snow plow NEVER goes.
